Let’s get started with todays topic!

Edgar Cayce was a famous American clairvoyant and psychic, known as the “Sleeping Prophet.” He became widely recognized for his claimed ability to diagnose illnesses, give medical advice, and make predictions while in a self-induced trance state, often while asleep.

Early Life and Background

Cayce was born on March 18, 1877, in Kentucky. Raised in a Christian family, he left school after eighth grade and worked a variety of jobs in his early life. By age ten, he was already the sexton of his local church and displayed signs of a photographic memory and unusual abilities. A significant turning point occurred after a childhood injury and a later loss of his voice, events which triggered his trance-like diagnostic states.

Psychic Abilities and Readings

Cayce claimed to be able to access answers to questions on physical health, past lives, dreams, the afterlife, Atlantis, reincarnation, and more, while hypnotized or in a sleep-like trance. He denied being a spiritualist and instead described himself as a devout Christian, saying he did not communicate with spirits. Over his lifetime, he gave more than 14,000 recorded readings, many of which were documented by secretaries and later published.

Founding of Organizations and Legacy

In 1931, Cayce established the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), a nonprofit dedicated to investigating his readings. He also founded a hospital and an Atlantic University, both of which operated for a time in Virginia Beach. Cayce’s work has had a lasting influence on the New Age movement and holistic health fields.

Controversy and Criticism

Cayce’s practices were controversial, leading to a few legal issues, including an arrest for practicing medicine without a license. Mainstream science has generally dismissed his abilities due to a lack of verifiable evidence, but he remains a significant figure in American psychic and alternative health history.

Personal Life and Death

Cayce was married to Gertrude Evans and had three sons. He continued his work until suffering a stroke in late 1944 and died on January 3, 1945, in Virginia.

Edgar Cayce’s most famous readings covered a wide range of topics, with his prophetic, medical, and metaphysical insights drawing broad attention.

Famous Prophecies and Predictions

Cayce famously predicted major global events, such as the 1929 stock market crash and the outbreak and alliances of World War II, including the partnership of Germany, Austria, and Japan, which materialized years later. He also described geological changes and suggested the discovery of Atlantis near Bimini in 1968 or 1969; the subsequent finding of the Bimini Road sparked interest in his Atlantis predictions.

Medical Readings

Cayce was renowned for offering diagnoses and holistic remedies while in trance, even though he lacked formal medical training. Among his 14,000 readings, many provided health advice that included recommendations for sleep, the use of olive oil, drinking water, and exercise—ideas that resonate with modern holistic practices.

Metaphysical and Spiritual Guidance

His metaphysical readings included teaching about the Akashic Records (a spiritual record of every soul’s journey), reincarnation, soul mates, and the purpose of dreams. Cayce discussed the interconnectedness of all life, self-awareness, karma, and “Christ Consciousness”—incorporating aspects of Christianity and Eastern philosophy into his guidance.

Legacy of Famous Clients and Cases

Cayce’s clientele included notable public figures such as Harry Houdini, Thomas Edison, Woodrow Wilson, and Marilyn Monroe, increasing the fame of his readings.

Noteworthy Specific Cases

Accurate diagnosis and successful treatment of illnesses for individuals across the U.S. using only their name and location.

Advanced statements about the Dead Sea Scrolls’ creators before their discovery in 1947.

Early mentions of the long-term health value of concepts like meditation and the holistic approach to illness.

Cayce’s readings remain the subject of ongoing study for their breadth and the mysteries still attached to many of his claims.

Lasting Impact

Cayce is remembered as a foundational figure in the development of the New Age movement and is often cited as one of the most thoroughly documented psychics of all time. Thousands continue to study his readings and teachings today.
