The Universe seems have a sense of irony.

Does this mean then that it’s the product of a benevolent, caring God who has proffered to us the gift of (dark) humour?

Not necessarily. Another view is that it amounts to mockery of the type we get from the self-appointed “elite” types that we have in this world. We know that, as part of their twisted karmic belief system, they like to announce themselves with their cute little calling cards.

Maybe the “god’ of this realm is doing the same? It’s not like there is any shortage of examples through which to arrive at that conclusion.
